Last year, I googled something about women in music, and the top result was a Quora question asking why there aren't many women in music in comparison to men. Disappointed with the answers I read (even denying the inequality), I wrote an answer. I was going to expand it on Quora, but now I have my own website to write about music on, I'll give the answer to myself!
My main conclusion was sexism, and I'll add the reasons why here soon (I only go as far back as the 1920s).

Every little helps, and we can all do our bit to improve things. Seek out underrepresented musicians, add them to playlists, buy their releases and merch, share their music, and request them on radio and at festivals.
And if you're in a band who has the opportunity to pick support acts, think about that. It's not a good look when tour after tour, I see certain acts who had the opportunities most don't, keep their lineups a total sausage-fest. Thankfully, my favourite male-dominated bands from the past have promoted diversity in their support acts for a long time.
